Past affirmative Japanese?

How do you say past affirmative sentences in Japanese. (I.e You were awesome) Tell me how "I" and "na" adjectives work, basically tell me how to say something involving "were" and all the grammar rules to do with past affirmative words! Thanks O.O please answer this question O.O (with detail)
